Holding Hands

THE TOUCH OF YOUR HANDS

Holding hands is an ordinary gesture that we may see and do every day. Most often it is used as a sign of affection, connection, or support.

Here are some surprising benefits of holding hands:

Helps in cementing the bond. When you hold hands, it symbolizes that you are always there for each other. Scientifically, this gesture releases a hormone known as oxytocin, which is known for its various health benefits.

Reduces stress. Remember those stressful times when one comforting touch by your loved one would calm you down, indicating that everything will be just fine. Dr. James A. Coan, a psychologist at the University of Virginia says, “The effect of this simple gesture of social support is that the brain and body don’t have to work as hard, they are less stressed in response to a threat.”

Provides a sense of security. Simple hand holding is a source of safety and comfort for young children. Remember your first day at school when your parents hold your hand and walked you to your classroom. Insecurity disappears when we have a hand to hold and allows us to conquer obstacles.

Relieves pain. While enduring pain, humans have the natural reflex to tighten their muscles. For example, in a delivery room, husbands are holding their wife’s hand while she’s going through labor.

Show your loved ones how devoted you are to them … just HOLD THEIR HAND! Interlocking fingers will show them how much you cherish and love them around you.

No expensive gifts or sweet talk can convey your devotion and commitment towards your relationship as much as the mere gesture of holding hands can.
