Live the Life South Florida: Rooftop Revelations

In the most recent video interview on Live the Life South Florida’s YouTube channel, Lisa May, our Executive Director, meets Pastor Corey Brooks, Founder and Senior Pastor of New Beginning of Chicago and founder and CEO of the not-for-profit Project H.O.O.D. Communities Development Corporation.

The interview took place in the same area where Pastor Brooks spent a collective 94 days camped out on the roof in protest of the cycle of poverty, violence, and incarceration in his immediate community, the South Side of Chicago. Pastor Brooks is still living on the roof until October 29th. Live the Life South Florida aims to prevent family fragmentation, which also reduces both poverty and incarcerated rates in society.

Pastor Brooks coming together with Live the Life South Florida’s purpose encourages the continued progress of assisting households in the community. He shares his personal story of coming from a single-parent household and how having different organizations to assist both himself and his mom truly made an impact on the person he is today. “There was a community center. There was a church. I had mentors. All those things were important,” he shares with Lisa in their interview.

In the same way, Live the Life South Florida’s programs for marriages, singles and students make a difference in the community, and with Pastor Brooks’s knowledge and experience, our South Florida community can so much benefit from his work. “They [the students] can’t help whom they’re born into. They cannot help the environment that they live in. But they do have some choice about their lives, so they have empowerment and a sense of dignity,” shares Lisa.

Furthermore, Lisa and Pastor Brooks discuss numerous scenarios placed in our society, like how a young man in a single-family home is 12 more times likely to be incarcerated, or how improving relationships can reduce the poverty rate for single moms by about 82%. Such circumstances continue to constantly affect families and community formation.

For this reason, Live the Life South Florida is hosting a dinner and evening of Rooftop Revelations, featuring Chicago’s Dynamic Rooftop Pastor Corey Brooks, on Thursday, November 3, 2022 (reception starts at 6:30 and dinner at 7:30).

At the event, attendees will be able to hear what Pastor Brooks is doing to stave off the perils that plague his community and learn more about what we can do to protect and prevent the same circumstances in our community. Additionally, a silent auction for Travel with a Cause will take place, and the event will have the lovely soundtrack of the Gold Coast Jazz Society.

As Pastor Brooks shares his passion for solving family brokenness, we kindly ask you to consider supporting us in hosting this event through sponsorship opportunities as proceeds benefit our students and families allowing us to expand our reach. Currently, we have provided healthy relationship education to over 19,000 adults and 27,000 students in 42 schools.

Live the Life South Florida exists to strengthen marriages and families through healthy relationship education beginning in middle school through senior adults. Through your involvement, together we can make a difference.
